Puppies at 26 days

I went to visit the puppies on Friday last week. It was amazing how much bigger they were. They are also a lot more active. The puppies were still confined, but in a larger pen than last week. They have gotten big enough to begin to climb over the edge of the pen.

The breeder is starting them on puppy food this week. I had a chance to watch them eat the puppy mush. They are fed in pairs to make sure that they all ate. Since they are fed just outside the pen, the ones not eating have been trying to get over the edge of the pen to the food.

They are still sleeping a lot. After eating, they all napped for a little while. Then back up to play some more.

I made sure to pick each of them up to separate them from the rest of the litter. I then turned them belly up until they stopped squirming. Then I held them up so that their legs dangled and waited until they stopped moving and then put them back with the rest of the litter. I am trying to expose them to some novel experiences to improve their ability to deal with change and uncertainty.

Oh they are getting more adorable by the minute!
why do they all have their leg so far apart in that last picture? looks like they are all sliding...

In the last picture, they area sliding. The newspaper was a little slippery, so they wound up eating like that for a little while. It certainly didn't slow down their eating. Their little tummies have been very full and their weight/growth increases show it.
